"Exploring Every Corner of the Cosmos in Search of Knowledge"
In this essay I explore three Yoruba stories about the creation of the cosmos and their philosophical explications, in relation to classical and contemporary African art and
classical Hindu art.
These stories are "The Descent of Oro", as
discussed by Rowland Abiodun, "Ayajo Asuwada", examined by Akinsola Akiwowo and "The Splitting of Oyigiyigi" explored by Awo Falokun Fatunmbi. The creative force that enables the development of the earth and of human and other terrestrial
communities visualized as the fall of dew, human expressive capacity pictured as a naked, itinerant personality too powerful to engage with directly but only through imaginative forms, the splitting of the primordial rock into the cosmos we observe today, are captivating central images from the cluster of stories brought together in this piece. I engage with the imaginative beauty, power and cognitive force of the narratives, correlating them with art accompanied by explanatory verbal text running from short paragraphs to two pages in length.
The essay comprises 87 pages and 18, 179 words of a single spaced PDF document, with 24 illustrations, all except 2 in full colour.. You are invited to access it through the free platforms linked below.
