Anyone noticed that the hue and cry about Biafran secession has dominated our discussion recently? Either on the website or in print, what seems to be our sole focus as a nation has been whether the South East is going to secede, along with the South South or by themselves alone; about how much the Ibos have suffered within Nigeria; etc.
It would seem to me that those Nigerians, who are not from his region of Nigeria are giving this issues too much attention untimely, and for no good reason. Definitely the secession of a major portion of our land should be of concern to all of us. The fact remains though that there has been no move by the concerned party, either legislatively or otherwise to secede.
Then, why the hullabaloo?
The struggle for secession is definitely real to a few Ibo people. However, it seems to me, from assessing the facts on the ground, that this struggle is presently incoherent and not well coordinated – by the Ibos themselves.
And until there is a unified movement by the Ibos themselves about their intentions, the rest of us are just talking loud and saying nothing. Our time is better spent figuring out how our country can be a batter place for us all.
