Your humble moderator attended the inaugural lecture of Professor Ademola Dasylva, and he is able to feed your eyes with over 200 photos.
What a great tradition! We started from the office of the Vice Chancellor where the distinguished professor was first hooded. As guests went to the hall, there was a dignified procession to Trenchard Hall, a glorious building which I think the Federal Govt. should declare as a historic monument and prevents the university from tampering with. Great faces—Professors Ayo Banjo, Duro Oni, Femi Osofisan, Niyi Osundare, Dr. Adesanya, and many more accomplished scholars from a rich intellectual tradition. My favorite is already well-known—the students who came in hundreds. My admiration is for the 92 year old man—Baba Fagbulu, the first to have a degree in mathematics from the University who still has the energy.
Ttiled "Cutlure Matters: African Literary Traditions, Organic Ontologies and Epistemological Roots," the lecture moves from the metaphors of witchcraft to similes of expressions, passing through the villages of ideas and the cities of mental facts!
The University of Ibadan did something innovative—those in areas where its radio station could reach could actually listened to the lecture as it was being delivered. Connecting the Ivory Tower with the public in this way is remarkable, and it should be possible for public lectures to be organized in this manner. Bravo! Great UI—the first and the best!
