By Chidi Anthony Opara
This scene
of elephants
on mines infested ground
spoiling for a fight
shivers my spine.
Resolve differences
and tread softly
off that ground!
Lest you detonate mines
and unleash holocaust
and kill life
in few minutes,
and confirm
my premonition
of imminent extinction
of life.
(This 1986 poem, presented in the era of cold war between the United States of America and the defunct Soviet Union, is presented again in the light of current faceoff between the United States and North Korea, as a social service, all rights reserved)
