NATO membership was not an election issue. Thank God.
Combating gang criminality was more on the top of the agenda Perhaps the Social Democrats & Allies could have done better in this election if they had campaigned more aggressively about how they would combat gang criminality, had surpassed the right-wingers and the extreme-right-wingers about the maximum jail time and deportations of non-citizens and citizens with a foreign background to serve their prison sentences in countries where the prison system is a lot harsher; in Sweden, they say it's more like a luxury hotel in which prisoners are incarcerated to keep themselves and the rest of society out of harm's way.
Better Half & I voted on Friday afternoon. On Sunday, Election Day, the queues were unusually long, which possibly means that some of the older people who would have chosen to follow the tradition of voting on Election Day, probably could not join long queues and therefore possibly did not vote. The voter turnout was also relatively low this time around, only circa 83% compared to 87% of those eligible who voted in 2018.
For the time being, it looks like the big journalistic guns and cannons are silent and are choosing to remain silent, biding their time until the final results are announced. - after which there will be a lot of horse-trading as Ulf Kristersson tries to cobble together a government with his Kingmaker Sweden Democrats as his main sleeping partners - and the way things are just now, since the Sweden Democrats are unlikely to get what they want, namely at least a few cabinet positions, that's the way it's going to be - they will be actively tabling a long list of demands which they will expect to be accepted by their tentative Prime Minister Mister Kristersson who had vowed earlier on that he would never have anything to do with the Sweden Democrats, not even as sleeping partners - but just like your power-hungry, average, mediocre politician, he too wants power, at all costs, some say even if he has to sleep with or be in bed with some people's devil incarnate in the person of Jimmie Åkesson. This surprise and disappointment in Kristersson reneging on his earlier commitment to shunning the Sweden Democrats as anathema is shared by Hedi Fried - a venerable Holocaust survivor who knows what she's talking about.
The most important sentence in The Guardian article is this one :
"The small Liberal party remains divided over working with the SD. It would take only one MP to break ranks for a rightwing government to fall, Gilljam said."
