I join others in mourning our departed beloved colleague.Don was a hard working and dedicated scholar. i have known him since 1986 both at Ondo and in unilag here. I pray God to grant the family the fortitude with which to bear his painful loss. May his soul rest in peace.

Subject: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Obituary: Adieu Don Akatakpo!
Dr Donatus Martins Akatakpo, popularly known as Don, born on 13 July, 1956, gave up the ghost on Saturday 17th July, 2010 at the General Hospital Ikeja, after a period of illness. Until his death, he was a senior lecturer at the Dept of Architecture, Unilag. Though he was more active in the 80s and 90s, he was a great artist in the Ona mode, and also an art scholar of note.
His academic and professional career is as follows:
1979- BA, Fine Arts (Painting and graphics) -Ife
1983- MFA (Drawing and painting) -Benin
1994- Ph.D Visual Arts (History of Art) -Ibadan
Lagos State College of Edu. (1980-1981), Lecturer III
NCAC, Lagos. (1984), Visual Arts Officer I
Adeyemi College of Edu. Ondo(1985-1986) , Lecturer II
New breed Magazine, Lagos(1988), Snr Arts writer
Nigerian Copyright Commission(1988) , Principal Research Officer/Head, Research & Documentation Division
