Germany tasks Nigeria on renewable energy – The Guardian
August 4, 2010 by Bunmi Awolusi
The German government is urging Nigeria to take advantage of the opportunities in renewable energy sources to solve its power generation challenges, especially at the grassroots.
The advice came as the Energy Commission of Nigeria in collaboration with Renewable Energy Technology based in Berlin, German, commenced a five-day training on some basic technologies for policy-makers and corps members in Abuja.
It was gathered that the corps members participating in the training are to get financial support to produce solar powered equipment from the Energy Commission of Nigeria, National Youth Service Corps and the Bank of Industry.
Through the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) in Nigeria, the German government said yesterday that it would support the introduction of renewable energies such as wind energy, bio-energy, solar energy and hydropower in the partner regions by providing methodological, sectoral and financial advisory services.
