USA Africa Dialogue Series - Bamanga Tukur Suggests NIgeria's President Jonathan Set Record.

Nigerians should by now, be sick and tired of misadvice (presented as advice) by discredited, opportuned fellow citizens.  Was Bamanga Tukur as General Manager of the Nigeria Port Authority (N.P.A.), not in the vanguard of the organized movement to wreck the Nigeria's economy? He had a great opportunity to help implement Nigeria’s fiscal policies, build Nigeria's international trade, and earn revenues for the country in the said position. He chose to blow it shamelessly. The man was reported to have bought a private executive jet for his personal use after he was fired as N.P.A. General Manager. Was it not him that was reported to have used aircrafts to conduct a still born political campaign for the office of President of Nigeria?

Mr. Tukur is reported to wish that President Jonathan set a record by not contesting the election for the office of President of Nigeria. Tukur had and still has many opportunities set some public service records himself. He refuses to do so.  What has he to show as an evident and measurable accomplishment, as Executive Director of the Africa Business Roundtable? Mr. Tukur should ask about the late Esom Alinta who served before him?

Mr. Tukur is one of Jonathan's advisers. He must be presumed to know Jonathan fairly well. Is his call for Jonathan not to contest Nigeria's next presidential election driven by blatant self interest? Is it a veiled disclosure that Jonathan in his (Tukur’s) knowledge, is not a good choice for the office? Is Mr. Tukur speaking tongue in cheek? Does Mr. Tukur really think that there are "better" candidates? Who might they be? Mr. Tukur is believed to be one of the many Nigerians who continue to reap and do not sow.  While he is entitled to opine and comment on public affairs, it may be imprudent to take his opinions and comments at face value. Is it not the case that it is from the abundance of the heart, that the heart speaks.

One realizes that Mr. Tukur may finally be wanting to redeem himself after what is believe to be his high profile role in the impoverishment of Nigeria and Nigerians. He should start by giving away to Nigerians, some of what some people believe is his ill-gotten wealth.

The sooner Nigeria recognizes that the better/right people to fix her problems are not, cannot, need not, and should not, be the people who created the problems, the sooner Nigeria's problems may be fixed. Jonathan, if he is not already, should read more often in between the lines.
