USA Africa Dialogue Series - RE: Idowubobo and the GEJ Diaspora Defence Outfit--: Northern Group to Jonathan: Resign or be Impeached:

Pastor Joe A et Simon CM Iberosi:

There are two separate issues here:

First is my bet on Ola Kassim's support for Prez GEJ as a COMPROMISE candidate; and since his reaction to the Oct 1 terrorist bombing at Abuja, I am observing that Dr Kassim has undertaken an apparent strenuous effort to find a compelling reason not move between a NEUTRAL and CENTER-STAGE for GEJ candidacy; that is, I sense he would like to remain on the Center-stage. As you would have observed, Pastor A did not have the T-fortitude to bet against me on my prediction regarding Ola Kassim's soft-side, and the Pastor's path of wisdom on the bet is paying off; as you can see or SMELL, our Brother Ola Kassim appear to be uncomfortable in his NEUTRAL CORNER!

Second, while I would agree that Pres GEJ continues to STUMBLE on the key national issues, THERE IS NO EVIDENCE WHAT-SO-EVER to suggest that he has been playing the Niger-Delta Victim-cum-Deprived Card AT ALL!!!! To say the least, Prez GEJ has DISAPPOINTED IMMENSELY on the Niger-Delta Struggle Issue! Here is a SON OF THE NIGER-DELTA SOIL, who by some unpredicted stroke of fate became President of Nigeria, a nation whose leadership has been BLAMED FOR THE INJUSTICE IN THE NIGER-DELTA; he was Deputy Governor, substantive Governor, Vice President and now PRESIDENT of Nigeria! One would have thought that all these years, GEJ would have known and crystallized the plight, demands and needs of the NIGER-DELTA, his OWN PEOPLE! And any opportunity would make him UNLEASH his thoughts, plans and ACTION! However, GEJ has been President since May but we DON'T READ, HEAR, SMELL, or SEE any concrete thoughts, plans or action about the Niger-Delta anywhere! If the Presidency changes hands tomorrow, the Niger Deltans have nothing to show for their son who had the opportunity to SIT ON THE PRESIDENCY, that is the Epi-center of the nation's leadership, and the Command-post for any Govt priority or national action. Considering what we have experienced in Nigeria since I was born, the potentials and resources I see, and the vast possibilities I can conceptualize about Nigeria, even JUI has a vision of what to do if I have an opportunity to Govern Nigeria for just 30 DAYS! I will set in MOTION an irreversible train that will change at least 5 Critical Sectors, and if that is all I can I do, I know I will just simply CROSS MY LEGS AND FINGERS so that other things can take shapes and form to turn Nigerian Development into a REALITY in our lifetime. Again I repeat that IT WILL BE A REAL SHAME IF GEJ FAILS! Take care. Joe Igietseme

Joe,
I cannot help but agree with you on this. The events of recent past has exposed the soft underbelly of GEJ and I'm wondering if GEJ is prepared for the challenges of the presidency in a diverse polity such as Naija, his ambition not withstanding.
His utterances and actions on the PDP zoning and now Oct 1bombing, have been quite "uneducated", inartful and impolitic. I don't know if it is over confidence or bad advisors, but GEJ seems to have lost the political finese or mojo, he exhibited during the UMYA crises that enabled him to work the political minefields laid for him by his traducers and endear him to some of us that have been supporting him.
Unfortunately, no matter what the man thinks Naija owes his folks, he can not succeed as a prez if he did not act like prez of Naija who happened to be Ijaw, rather than prez of Ijaw who happened to be Naija, at least until he has recorded some noteworthy achievements to his name and presidency. Of course if he needs mentorship, brother BO in 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., may be a good resource...of course the whole world other than Adamu Ciroma and his virulent gang wants him to succeed!
So I hope for GEJ's legacy, since he can not guarantee( and he must not try to do that because then he might make mistakes that could not only undermine him but plunge Naija into avoidable crises) another tenure, he should use the remainder of this administration to govern which includes ensuring that there is security in the country and all criminals, whether in the ranks and file of MEND, AREWA, OPC, Ohaneze etc, are brought to justice and dealt with the full dose of the Law.
Cuddling and appeasement of criminals can not put Naija on a sound footing in meeting the aspirations of the citizenry! There should be accountability for actions inimical to the interest of the country, whether as white collar thieves, kidnappers or terrorists! Without some discipline, the rebranding effort will be an enterprize in fuitility.
Really, I love GEJ for his personal story however, if he does not start demonstrating sound political and interpretive management skills, and of course the discipline and intestinal fortitude necessary in the governance and inspiration of a complex polity such as Naija, I'm afraid Gen Buhari will continue to be touted as a viable alternative.

Dr Kassim

It looks like you and JUI have rigged the bet about youreturning to support GEJ. Hehehe

On a more serious note are we saying that the only options we have  are either GEJ or IBB?

I strongly support GEJ running in the PDP primaries because it insures that IBB is not the ruling party's candidate.

However we have more competent people than GEJ in the general election  If he must come from SS then Utomi; if it must be the North then Buhari.

The future of our country is at stake

My Fellow Naija people:

I am delighted that my successor in my old volunteer job
"Director, GEJ Diaspora Defence Taskforce":) has taken
up the assigned task with tremendous enthusiasm; and I must admit THAT
he has moved it up a notch from where I left it.

Our colleague and fellow compatriot Idowubobo is now an avowed GEJ promoter, even echoing some of my words in the days not too long ago when I was pleading
that Nigerians should support GEJ as our compromise candidate who is best
placed amongst all the PDP candidates to forestall an IBB presidency.
What Idowubobo is telling us is the truth! It has to be the truth because I used
to say it. Nothing has changed in that regard.

However Idowubobo has not addressed in any of his responses the issue of
competence or lack of it that caused my defection from the GEJ
corner to the neutral corner.

We must ask this ALL IMPORTANT question: Of what use is a good and amiable candidate like GEJ when he has demonstrated only sheer incompetence in the handling of a simple task such as the aftermath of the bombing of Abuja by a renegade faction of MEND?

Why does President Jonathan find it so difficult to put together simple words
to express simple ideas?

Instead of saying that MEND did not bomb Abuja and that foreign
based terrorists did it, could he not just have stated that as far as the government knows
the real MEND outfit was not responsible for the carnage in Abuja, but that a small
renegade faction, not representative of the true MEND whose leaders have signed an
amnesty with the FGN was responsible. By giving MEND a blanket absolution,
President Jonathan was also inadvertently absolving the renegade faction of MEND who committed the dastardly act with or without specific orders from their leader, Henry Okah.

President Jonathan must begin to exert his presidential powers in a manner that shows
that he has what it takes to be the President of Nigeria for another 4 years, if he is to stand any chance against other presidential candidates in 2011.

Meanwwhile ID, keep up the good work; more grease to your elbows.
Ironically the toughest jobs we do in life are the (voluntary) ones that we do
pro bono!

Bye,

Ola

I am appealling to all lovers of Nigeria north and south, this is a fight for the spirit and soul of Nigeria.

This is not Ijaw or MEND war, it is time to remove partsianship and join hands to fight this stranglehold on Nigeria.

All past presidents and leaders failed because of these people that are fighting Jonathan. Nigeria is bigger than anyone.

It is time to change course, Jonathan is on the throne today because God put him there and only God can remove him

The threat of an impeachment is just an empty rhetoric. Northern Political leaders are too smart not to go that route; and they are not going to do it. Period. The only trick in their sleeves is to use large delegates from the north to deny GEJ the PDP nomination if indeed they do not want him to continue as president after the election. They probably could succeed if they are united.

They have the foresight to have created many local governments in the north which are much more than in the south. They used delegates from these local governments to thwart the presidential ambition of Dr. Ekwueme 1999 during the primary. Thus, effectively sidelined Ekwueme who was a PDP founding member; and gave the presidential slot to Obasanjo who was just released from prison. My good friend Dominic Ogbonna of Aguleri alluded to the issue of delegates this morning.

One of the impressive things that the Nigerian constitution does, with the provision for impeachment is that it moves from the American experience, to make the impeachment of the president for political purposes legitimate.  For a young Republic, that serves a crucial purpose.  It makes it possible for law-makers, to bring impeachment proceedings against a president, who has lost touch with political reality, in ways that are not easily defined in terms of high crimes and misdemeanors.

President Jonathan should be able to live with such threats, if he has the right stuff to lead a multi-ethnic state.

I thank you.

Fubara David-West.
