PROFESSOR TESLEEM IYIOLA RAJI DIED, AGED 70.
Professor Tesleem Iyiola Raji died on Monday, November 1, 2010 at Ile-Ife and was laid to rest according to Muslim rites by the Immam of Ibadan Land on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at his house in Ibadan.
Professor Raji was born in 1940 at Oja'gbo, Ibadan. He attended the Olubadan School for his Primary Education and later proceeded to the Government College Ibadan for his Secondary Education.
He studied at Columbia University, New York, for his Undergraduate Degree program in Electronics and Electrical Engineering,(BS). He worked for a while with KODAK Corporation and embarked on his Masters and PH.D program at the University of Rochester, Rochester, New York. In 1975, he earned his PH.D in Electronics and Electrical Engineering. After he earned his Doctorate Degree, he returned to Nigeria to join the Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering at the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife as one of the Foundation Teachers. He stayed at Ife till 1990 when he became the Foundation Dean, Faculty of Engineering Technology at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso. He remained at LAUTECH until his death.
Professor Tesleem Iyiola Raji served in various Academic and Administrative capacities Nationally and Internationally. He was Chairman, Institute of Electronics and Electrical Engineering , Chairman Nigerian Society of Engineers, Member NUC Accreditation Team to Universities, Member -Governing Council of Ibadan Polytechnic, Chairman of the Board of Directors of WEMA Bank,PLC, Acting Vice Chancellor, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso and Visiting Professor, Trieste Research Institute, Italy. Untill his death, Tesleem was the Chairman of Oyo State Scholarship Board.
Professor Tesleem Iyiola Raji belonged to several Socio Cultural Organizations like: ASRAO Brothers of Nigeria, Ibadan E3/ E4 Development Association, Ibadan Foundation, Egbe Omo Ibadan, Oluyole Club, Mapo Cosmopolitan Club, Ibadan Government College Old Boys Association. Although he belonged to many organizations, Tesleem did not Drink Alcohol or Smoke. He was known for his soft spoken, thoroughness, simple appearance, readiness to help, very hard working and not willing to compromise his conscience.He believed that all things are possible if only you exercise time to understand the process.
Iyiola as I called him from childhood,was survived by his wife, children, sisters and brothers.
