Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - SCRIPTS OF POWER:ENTRY INTO CONTEMPLATIVE SPACES THROUGH THREE SHORT VIDEOS ON THE ART OF VICTOR EKPUK

Toyin,

Please let me get my work done.  First it was Dr. Falola and that essay on race in Brasil and now you with that devastating artwork, the words that I didn't have to understand in order to comprehend.  Get thee behind me Satan and let me be a school marm for one more week.  Then, we can let our collectively creative freak flags fly freely!

I loved all three videos.  I hope you catch a tenth of my sincerity from this email.

Against the background of a location in time and in identity represented by a date and the name of an artist,a spiral appears. Evocations of infinity in contrast to time,of the journey into the solar crimson of the spiral bands, as temporality gives way to infinity.

Enter in silence into the presence of ancient scripts born anew.Victor Ekpuk reshapes the world through the language of lines and colour.
