The governor said the task of defending the nation is beyond the responsibility of the Independent National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).
He addressed reporters at the new domestic terminal of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
Fayemi said: "I think it goes beyond INEC. INEC should define the direction it wants to go and, we, as Nigerians, should insist on the kind of elections we want to have. To the best of our knowledge, Prof. Attahiru Jega, the INEC chairman, is genuinely interested in making a difference.
"But Jega alone cannot make that difference. He needs the security agencies; we need Nigerian people, and I believe that all those people are trying to make a difference."
"We must insist on our vote counting as Nigerians. We must insist as politicians on a level playing field and we must monitor our vote.
