In response to Paul Okechukwu Oranika's
NigerianID | Requiem for the National Youth Service
By Ifuemi Adepoju
Our country Nigeria is often lawless and unaccountable. The NYSC in the first place is a terrible mistake in a country that does not feel responsible for its own people.
Those Youth Corpers who recently lost their lives in the recent ethno-political/religious clash in the North (and their loved ones who are left to mourn them)are the sacrificial "rams" of the false "benefits" of the NYSC.
Many who experienced the NYSC have spoken so fondly of it. However, I am sure that most of our Youth Corpers both past and present would not want lives lost in exchange for the counterfeit unity and joy they experienced during their NYSC now turned sour; because really, looking at it.....it's not worth losing lives for. WHAT A WASTE!!!
Our country is wasteful and selfish in so many ways. Nothing except the money you make either by hook or crook is respected. The majority of us are greedy selfish and mean, without a care for our neighbour. That is why innocent youths can be killed the way it has just happened. And in the usual Nigerian way "nothing will come out of it". What an awful mess!!
From what I understand, the NYSC was set up as a response to fostering national unity after the Nigerian –Biafra war. Wait a minute...did I hear unity? Oh no...please stop it. Who is taking who for a ride here? What unity? Please let us stop this self deceit. There can be no unity in a country that is largely unaccountable and irresponsible. Such a country cannot successfully support a programme as the NYSC because its citizens are not loved by those in the topmost hierarchy who are supposed to be responsible for the very citizens who they claim to want to unite. We do not have the support systems to take care of such a programme. This is because Nigeria is a " chop and quench" society.
O....what a mess!!
Innocent souls sacrificed at the altar of youth on slaughter slabs of national irresponsibility. This is madness!!! This madness will never stop until each person knows their place.
NYSC should be scrapped until we become a civilized society. When this will be, we do not know. Maybe in the next one thousand years, maybe it may never happen. Until then, let us all move "softly softly" so we do not get caught and used as meaningless unacceptable sacrifice.
Whoever dies is of no concern of the government because "nothing will come out of it". They will only make some fake sympathy speeches after which it is business in greed as usual.
At the risk of sounding unpatriotic, it is advisable that "make everybody go answer im papa name" On second thoughts, "make everybody go answer im own name" . Na wah!!! Wahala!!! This is absolute rubbish and wickedness. If not Kidnapping, its ethno-political /religious mass murder. Na wetin??? Tufiakwa!!!. The other day it was cantonment bomb blast. Then we also have the horrible unnecessary road accidents and air crashes. Such a beautiful and gifted country, messed up and unappreciated by its own selfish and gluttonous wealth amassing leaders. A hot bath accompanied with thunderous sulphuric showers awaits them in the deepest crevices of hell.
There can be no amount of compensation that will soothe the hurt the families feel. Our Nigerian government is incapable of protecting its people. No matter what promises are made about protection for youth corpers, it would never work. With sincere apologies I say, who is dead is dead. It is advisable we all are careful with regards to where we go (within Nigeria) or decide to send our children. We are from a grossly and severely irresponsible country. What a pity!!! Again I say.... The country is not capable of protecting its people.
My brother Paul Okechukwu Oranika..... did I hear you say... "Enough is enough for this madness" ? Oh......what a laugh......the madness can never stop......the mad slaughtering dance will go on...until we learn......that it is... "To your tents oh Israel........."
O.....how saaaaaddd!! The NYSC is nothing but another failed kwashiorkor attempt at false unity. This time, who are we going to blame? Lord Lugard?......or do we blame Mungo Park?.....or let's try Queen Victoria or maybe Queen Elizabeth or even better still, David Cameron!!
Nigeria we hail thee........
