If the EFCC has no case against Emeka Ugwuonye, they should simply withdraw the charge and let the poor man go home to his business and family. Enough of this nonsense! Yesterday Mr Ugwuonye was at the Abuja High court to keep his court date, but neither the EFCC nor their Lawyer showed up. Instead Mr Festus Keyamo applied at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to revoke the bail granted to Mr Emeka Ugwuonye.
EFCC Attempts To Revoke Emeka Ugwuonye's Bail And To Keep Him In Detention
In the Application to revoke Mr Emeka Ugwuonye's bail, which EFCC's lawyer, Festus Keyamu, filed, they made the following allegations. (The notes are mine).
(c): That the accused person has been making several libelous and disparaging statements in the electronic media via a website address: www.elombah.com against the complainant and statements that are prejudicial to this trial.
Note: As proof: (a) They attached an article published on Friday, April 29, 2011 on elomba.com. On April 29, 2011, he was still in detention and that was after HIS lawyers filed a contempt proceeding against them for keeping him in detention after the court had ordered that he be released; (b) They also attached an article published on March 4, 2009 by Chika Onyeani. So, according to them a statement made in 2009 could now be said to have been made to prejudice a case filed in 2011. (Haba, Keyamu and EFCC! How desperate could they get?). (c) They also attached an article published in Republicreport on May 25, 2011, which basically stated that his lawyer sued them for contempt of court, which was a fact. Indeed, the court would issue a ruling on the contempt probably on the next court day.
(d): That the statements of the accused person are contemptuous and are a direct affront and indictment on the integrity of this Honorable Court.
Note: How does saying that his lawyer sued EFCC for contempt turn out to be contemptuous of the same court? Haba! I knew that Adoke was right on what he said about EFCC's incompetence and lack of capacity for anything meaningful.
(e): That the accused person is using the same medium (elombah.com) to cast aspersions on the person of the head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other top Government officials of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who are witnesses in this case, with the aim of intimidating them regarding regarding (their typo) their evidence.
Note: One must really laugh at these people. They only listed two witnesses in the document they filed in court (Ambassador Adefuyi and Mr. Yusuf Abdulahi, presently based in Abuja). Who are the government officials that are being intimidated? How can a whole Ambassador be intimidated? So they are now admitting that he can intimidate Mrs. Waziri? Haba, haba!!. Anyway, even if he said these things really, he can prove them to be true. After all, recently, the Attorney General of Nigeria actually collaborated all these things.
(f): That unless restrained, the action of the accused person is capable of causing disaffection in the minds of several people who may believe his stories as true state of affairs.
Note: What "action of the accused" are they talking about? Well, they used the word in the singular, so they would not be alleging different acts. I thought they were talking about statements made to the press. You see; they are afraid of the truth. They want to stop him from speaking his mind. They were the ones that rushed to crucify him in the media and told incredible stories about him and many of the people in the Internet community believed them. They showed his photograph in an unusual appearance. At that time, did they not realize he was a party to the same lawsuit? They caused the people to believe that he swindled them in real estate transactions even though none of the 6 real estate transactions he handled has been faulted. Now, because he decided to tell his side of the story, they are crying like babies. Mrs. Waziri and Ambassador Adefuyi are crying for help, just like babies. They are trying to lock him up so that he would not say anything against them. First and foremost, he is not necessarily responsible for what people say about him. But in this case, all that was said are true. Indeed, they have been proven to be true by the statements of the Nigerian Attorney General at the Senate confirmation hearing. Now, you can see the type of people that are placed in high offices of Ambassador and head of important government agency.
