THE Vice President, Dr Gharib Mohammed Bilal and former president Benjamin Mkapa, on Wednesday led hundreds of mourners in paying last respect to University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) Political Scientist, Prof Samuel Mushi who died last week.
Prof Mushi died at the Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) in Dar es Salaam on Saturday, after a short illness.
Hundreds of Dar es Salaam including members of UDSM community paid the last respects at the Nkurumah Hall, before he was laid to rest at his farm in Bunju 'B' area in Dar es Salaam later on Wednesday.
Prof Gasper Munishi of the UDSM described Prof Mushi as a great academic who contributed extensively to the varsity, the government and the society on various political issues.
He said Prof Mushi worked with UDSM from 1967 in the department of political science and public administration up to his last breath. He held four degrees from UDSM.
''Prof Mushi had taught a lot of people and this is proved by the fact that 95 per cent of the lecturers in the department of political science and public administration are his product,'' he said.
Prof Amandina Lihamba, UDSM Director of Public Service, said that Prof Mushi has left a gap which was hard to fill. She said he was always ready to share his knowledge and experience with other people.
''I knew Prof Mushi as a fellow lecturer and we have been working together for many years - I learned a lot from him...In short it will be difficult to get an experienced and generous person like him," she said.
Dr Nassor Masoud, a lecturer at the university's philosophy unit said that Prof Mushi was an academic who had significant contribution to the community, especially in political issues.
Prof Mushi was born on December 24, 1939 at Machame area in Hai District, Kilimanjaro Region. He is survived by a widow, seven children and 13 grand children.

THE University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) Political Scientist, Prof Samuel Mushi, will be laid to rest at his farm in Bunju 'B' area in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, family members have said.
Prof Mushi died on Saturday while undergoing medical treatment at the Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) following a sudden stroke.
''We will collect our father's body from Muhimbili Hospital tomorrow evening and bring it home at Victoria area, where family members will have a chance to pay their last respect,'' said the deceased's daughter, Ms Suzan Mzee.
Ms Mzee noted further that on Wednesday, the body will be taken to Nkrumah Hall at the University of Dar es Salaam where workers, students and friends will pay their last respect.
According to Ms Mzee, in the afternoon, the body will be taken to Bunju 'B' and laid to rest in the compound of his school, the Dar es Salaam Prime High School.
Prof Mushi who was working with the UDSM as a lecturer in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration is survived by a widow and seven children.
