Unilag first class graduate sets all time record

Iziren Josiah Akhigbe, a graduating student of mechanical engineering; University of Lagos (UNILAG) has set an all time academic record in the varsity's history, graduating with a cumulative 4.98 GPA, first class honours.
Akhigbe led the pack of other 117 distinction holders of UNILAG at the 2011 convocation ceremony held at the institution's main campus, Akoka Lagos yesterday.
According to UNILAG's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adetokunbo Sofoluwe, Iziren's academic record is the highest C.G.P.A in the history of graduates produced by UNILAG.
"The outstanding student of the academic year, Mr Iziren Akhigbe, is from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and graduated with the highest GPA of 4.98 - the highest CGPA in the history of graduates. I congratulate Mr Akhigbe and the entire staff of Faculty of Engineering for a job well done," Prof Sofoluwe said.
According to the vice chancellor, Miss Esther Akanni of the Department of Accounting of the Faculty of Business Administration came 2nd in the overall best ladder with 4.93 CGPA.
A further breakdown of the graduating students shows that a total of 3,224 graduated with certificates, diploma and degree programmes from faculty of Arts, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Law, Science, Medicine, Social Sciences, Pharmacy and Distance Learning Institute.
The second tier of graduands from other faculties and post graduate studies are slated for convocation today.
