Fresh facts are emerging on the alleged corruption of the TASUED management following the unveiling of a proposal to merge the institution with the OOU Faculty of Education. Independent investigations revealed that the authorities of TASUED were deeply involved in contract scams that milked the resources of the institution derived from grants, bank loans, and consultancy services rendered, largely to the State govt.
Public officials did set up front companies to provide training to teachers teaching in the Teacher training colleges and other teacher training institutions.
The last administration awarded grants in addition to several hundreds of millions paid to the institution by SUBEB and NIT.
Training contracts were awarded to the front companies of the politicians with about 60% paid by the companies for recycling back to OGD. In effect, only 40% of the training the teachers contracts was delivered.
Further investigation revealed a more deadly admission racket. TASUED kept two separate admission registers. One register has 10,000 students which has been publicly acknowledged. It contained the names of students on postgraduate, undergraduate, and some sandwich courses. The second register consists of students who failed to meet the minimum requirements but were asked to enroll for Sandwich courses. The fees paid by these second set of 10,000 students were not paid into any of the accounts of TASUED known to the government. An official of TASUED stated that the receiving account was known to the Vice-Chancellor, Commissioner for Education and the former Governor Otunba Gbenga Daniel. The fees were not reflected in the institution's budget or its Income and Expenditure statement.
As if these were not enough, a source disclosed that the authorities were under pressure from the OGD administration. A sum of N500 million was sourced from 2 banks under the guise that it was meant for the payment of appropriated salaries. The N500 million was diverted to fund the Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN).
Other higher institutions in Ogun State were made to divert their institution's funds to the PPN fighting fund. This has been acknowledged by some other stakeholders and employees. Those spoken to, pleaded that the authorities of TASUED were helpless as the former govt viewed the institution as a cash cow.
