NERC CHAIRMAN DONATES "TIME TO RECLAIM NIGERIA" TO UNIVERSITIES

The Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr Sam Amadi, will today (Wednesday, July 25, 2012) present 100 copies of the book, Time to Reclaim Nigeria (Essays 2001-2011) to the National Universities Commission (NUC) for distribution to eighteen (18) universities across the country.

Time to Reclaim Nigeria (Essays 2001-2011), written by journalist and rights activist, Chido Onumah, is a collection of essays on Nigeria's socio-political evolution in the last decade.

Dr. Amadi said he was making the donation because "Time to Reclaim Nigeria (Essays 2001-2011) is a seminal work, bristling with passion that addresses issues such as corruption, abuse of power, politics, and misgovernance in Nigeria, and would be both a handy reference material and a veritable source of information for Nigerian students".

"There is a dearth of scholarship in our universities," Dr Amadi noted. "This donation is part of my commitment to strengthen the intelligence base of social existence amongst Nigerians especially those in the universities. Literature like this, a first-hand chronicle of political developments in the country will stimulate informed discourse and strategies on moving our nation forward."

While ten copies of the book will go to the NUC, five copies will go to three universities in each of the six geo-political zones for the faculties of law, social sciences, arts/humanities and university libraries.

The institutions that will benefit include 10 federal and eight state universities. The universities are: South West Zone: University of Ibadan, Lagos State University, Ekiti State University; South-South Zone: University of Benin, University of Calabar, Rivers State University of Science & Technology; South East Zone: Ebonyi State University, University of Nigeria, Imo State University; North Central Zone: University of Abuja, Federal University of Technology, Minna, University of Jos; North West Zone: Ahmadu Bello University, Sokoto State University, Bayero University; North East Zone: University of Maiduguri, Gombe State University, and Adamawa State University.

The books will be handed over to the NUC at a ceremony to be presided over by its Executive Secretary, Professor Julius Okojie. Venue for the presentation is the premises of the National Universities Commission, at 11am.
