Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - WHAT IS HAPPENING AFTER THE END OF BIAFRA WAR,january 1970 ? ?. BY OLADIMEJI ABORISADE.

i was going to comment on this, but held back, being decidedly an outsider to nigerian conflict. but this statement caught my eye: i was born during world war II, my coming of age politically was during the vietnam war, and i have had to live through american conquistadorianism under bush and his iraq adverturism. it might not be too much to say that the real struggle for the war begins when the fighting ends.
we in the u.s. are still living with the consequences of the civil war, and especially with its aftermath in which the south managed to turn back reconstruction and turn it back to racist repression. we still are fighting that out.
how can a nation come together, and people feel common purpose, without a sorting out the past?
it is a real question, when you consider pierra nora's views of history, and especially renan's statement that a nation can be forged only by a mutual act of forgetting.
so in nigeria, what is the price of forgetting? can this discussion demonstrate how much nigeria is still divided because biafra has not been forgotten?

Aborisade,
It is very disturbing that there are still people who could write what you wrote,
"I think winning  the war should put to rest the past. Nigeria is not the only country that ever went to war but after the end of such a war, new life begins",

as if Nigerian winning the war ends the entire conceptual, philosophical, existential, humanitarian and socio-political issues regarding the war. Ask any American historian and s/he will tell you that after many decades the American Civil War is still an issue-and a memory.

If you are worried about about a resurgence of 'Biafra', then be worried intelligibly.

Subject: USA Africa Dialogue Series - WHAT IS HAPPENING AFTER THE END OF BIAFRA WAR,january 1970 ? ?. BY OLADIMEJI ABORISADE.

from: Oladimeji Aborisade:     Please, may I kindly ask a very simple question on "Biafra"?   What is happening after the end of the war in January, 1970?. The world is familiar with the war which was fought for three years and won by the Federal Government of Nigeria. I think winning  the war should put to rest the past. Nigeria is not the only country that ever went to war but after the end of such a war, new life begins. It is sad that MR. onwuka is still organizing a rebellious group called"Biafra Zionist Movement".  He is working to declare November 5 as a day. What DAY? A day for another rebellious organization to start operating  like the "Boko Haram"?. Already the image of Nigeria as a country is dented on many issues like  being stigmatized as a terrorist environment.  If the " Biafra Zionist Movement" follows, the number of terrorist group in Nigeria is increasing. If you, Mr. Onwuka has a problem, talk to your local government, if you are not satisfied, talk to the state, if you still feel very uncomfortable, please see your Reprsentatives:Senate and the  House. Please take a step to write to the President of the country. I do not know how old you are, but remember that the Biafra war ended in favor of Federal Government in January 1970, 42 years ago.  Please do not rekindle the memory of innocent people to a totally forgotten case, the Biafra War of 1967--1970.
Thank you,
oladimeji aborisade.
