USA Africa Dialogue Series - Only President Mugabe Can Stop Political Violence in Zimbabwe

The appeals for peace from Zanu PF currently doing national and global rounds are a mere face saver. They have no practical follow-up, impact let alone arrests. Please mark my words.

The murder of Christpowers Maisiri, a 12 year old boy through a politically-engineered arson attack, has left the whole world shaken, disturbed, shocked, disgruntled, disheartened and disappointed. This is at a time when the sanctions for Zimbabwe have been relaxed by the EU on some of the Zanu PF stalwarts as a sign that the environment has improved on peace standards. It is only a mockery in that at the very hour that peace has been predicted or assumed in Zimbabwe, Zanu PF thugs are already sharpening their machetes to do more retribution and force-march ordinary people to vote for Zanu PF and President Mugabe. This is a travesty in that as the so called Zanu PF leaders are preaching peace by day, they are raising two thumbs up by the night for the great tasks achieved in spilling blood among innocent civilians. If Zanu PF was not in approval, the perpetrators of the Maisiri murder (Gilbert Makura, Isaac Dhofo Dobo, Anna Mumbana and Tendai Gosho-all strongly linked to Mutasa) could by now be making headlines from the court news after bail denials. Unfortunately, this is Zimbabwe where police only arrest those deemed enemies of Zanu PF. ZRP now only take instructions from above before they make targeted arrests. In some cases they arrest enemies before even making investigations. There is selective justice and those caught on the dark side suffer beyond description as they are detained without trial and denied bail. ZRP is now a perpetrator of violence through incaceration of anti-Zanu PF activists. Read More
