O yeah,
"Poet is Priest
Money has reckoned the soul of America"
http://www.elyrics.net/read/a/allen-ginsberg-lyrics/death-to-van-gogh_s-ear-lyrics.html
It's good to read Ede's honest, translucent prose which does not have
to be interpreted or misinterpreted. Mr.Soyinka has left obviously
left his indelible imprint and influences on the propensities and
maybe, the everlasting greater tendencies in Nigerian prose...
For me too,
"Well it's just that sometimes
by midnight light
I'm frightened by my fears " ( Al Jarreau - Susan's Song)

The truth is that 99.9 % of these quacks who say that y can see the
unalterable future are 100% charlatans, quacks who mostly prey on the
gullible and for a fee. Rabbi Yaakov Hillel has warned against them.
Of course if they were real then they would have put Ladbrokes out of
business, Ladbrokes would have gone for broke – even about who will
be the next Pope
There is an extra temptation - and danger -not only to the African
writer, poet – play-wright, man/ woman of knowledge or Bible-thumper
in Pentecostal circles - since if you can cobble a few words together
you are supposed to be near-omniscient and available for
consultations, especially about the future of Africa, Europe, the
world, the great Apocalypse, Francis Fukuyama's "The end of history and
the last man"
It's a malady that afflicts not only Swedish poets (writing in Swedish
of course)

But Toynbee does talk about cycles of history just as Hindu Holy men
talk about the Kali Yuga...
Among scholars, among the most trustworthy that I can think of when
it comes to predicting the Nigerian or Diaspora future would be people
like Professor Toying Falola - and then only on the basis of that
Runoko Rashidi dictum that "History is a light that illuminates the
past, and a key that unlocks the door to the future." which is but a a
variation of George George Santayana's "The one who does not remember
history is bound to live through it again"

There exists a long demented line of prophets, teachers, gurus, visionaries, clairvoyants and 'wisemen' or plain con artists who all equally have the jobless ears of an impassive God. So they invoke and are awarded apocalyptic contracts of floods, earthquakes, nuclear meltdowns, rivers of liquid fire till the sky implodes and earth caves in. We are then either 'raptured' into heaven or we rupture here in a hell-on-earth – if left behind.

Ede is the editor of Maple Tree Literary Supplements, a journal rapidly earning a reputation for muscular, thought provoking works from writers all over the world. Find that magazine and "like' it ;-)
