Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Of Vultures & Achebe's There Was a Country

My broda, you have supplied  us with the core of the contradiction in your relationship to Nigeria.

It is that contradiction that I find unjust.

If the country is as terrible as you like to paint it, continuously fighting against Biafra, to which you see yourself as belonging in your blog post which I linked, a country described by you as composed partly of 'vultures'   who are deemed 'vultures' because they 'condemned'  Achebe's book which supports the Biafra/Igbo -Forever-Under-Siege theory, 'vultures' which everyone knows are concentrated in the Yoruba enclave where you have chosen to make your career since a core of critique of Achebe came from Yoruba critics, what are you doing in such a dangerous place?

Why did you not remain in Anambra or anywhere else in Igboland after your pre-tertiary education?

That is what puzzles me.

Since Nigeria, in its complexity has been your welcoming home, is it fair of you to maintain and express such a vitriolic and combative stance towards the nation, a stance evident in your post of one or two years ago and your post of this week?

Is that just of you? Don't you owe the country a more appreciative attitude?

thanks

Toyin Adepoju,
Anyone who has been reading your listserv posts would know that you
frequently try to evade hard knocks and disgrace through diversionary
tactics, often bringing up issues that belong to other debates. I am
also amused at the tactics you are using in the ongoing argument! I
have made my major points and would like to see what defence you can
put up.
Just to help you deal with the shame of using unverified information
to play politics: I studied at the University of Calabar and worked
there for a decade before moving over to Ibadan. I was also a
secondary school teacher in Anambra State for some years before going
for my undergraduate training. It is childish for one to turn one's CV
to an autobiography, writing down everything one has done. There are
occasions to present such details. Oh, maybe you want me to include my
primary school education, gender, ethnic group, religion, etc in a CV
I use as a university lecturer and for international engagements!
But, am surprised?
