Compatriots,
Copious amounts of tributes and accolades have been emoted worldwide in wake of recent transition of the esteemed Nigerian storyteller, teacher and sociopolitical commentator of our time, Prof. Chinua Achebe. As we mourn his loss, it has also become apparent that it is indeed impossible to lose someone who has left so much of himself behind for this and future generations to celebrate. Achebe knew all along that, like many other masters before him, he shall live eternally in minds of his people through his many good works. He may have shed his aged and jaded physical body for obvious reasons, but his spirit lives on. Since he lives, he remains relevant in the chore of building a more equitable, stable and prosperous Nigeria; a task which has consumed many an hour of his long prodigious professional career.
The article attached is titled "Achebeism: The Doctrine for a Renascent Nigeria". Achebeism is all about the fatherland envisioned by Achebe and his generation as the pride of Africa and the Black World since attainment of self-rule from Britain half a century ago. He was keenly aware that Nigeria of his dreams remains a work in progress even during the period when he shall be unable to physically partake in executing the ongoing chore. So, he sketched a road map that encapsulates his patriotic contributions to the task that still lies of us ahead in black and white. Achebeism is a condensate from this road map.
