ATTACKS LEAVE 19 DEAD,FOUR VILLAGES DESTROYED OVER DEATH OF TWO COWS IN KADUNA STATE: ( by oladimeji aborisade.)
Kaduna the former capital of Northern Nigeria is experiencing intolorance among its ethnic group who are becoming tired of each other. This time, it is Fulani and Hausa conflict on who killed the two cows belonging to the Fulani cattle dealer. Two cows were found dead. It was not clear under what circumstance the two cows died, whether through poison or natural but anger erupted and nineteen innocent people were killed, four villages burnt down, several people were wounded and many people ran away. All happened in a Kaduna village called Mafian at Kaura Local Government Area.
This untidy behavior is not strange within the Nigerian experience with the "Cow Fulani". The Southern part of Nigeria must have witnessed episode of this nature many times especially the farmers. But the Southerners have in most cases attended to the problem with humor. However, this case is unique beause it is Hausa/ Fulani. We need to appreciate the gentleman approach which the Southerners applied over the years to prevent un necessary casualities.
What can we do to prevent future mishap?. It is time to requlate the " Commons". If this is not done or delayed, history will repeat itself. Regulation must be put in place to protect the farmers and their farm products from the cows.It is evidently clear that Cow fulani will always be interested in profit maximization instead of protecting the land . Clearly, Cow Fulani will destroy common property through greed and exploitation . This must stop orherwise more coflicts are ahead.
Thank you,
