USA Africa Dialogue Series - Re: Wharf, my favorite Amigo. All Set! Obama Care & African Community - July 11

Ol' boy nkwatakiri?

Weti bi majority of the people? That could easily be 200,000 in the DMV.

There is a saying: tortoise loves boxing but its hands are short. I would have loved the biggest place  but resources are limited, falling short to match vivid imagination and practical means.  If I ask you to donate, you will lock yourself in your Mushin principality and I will not hear pim from you for 180 days and nights until the event is over and health care defeated lol.

The US Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services has met with other ethno-demographic and vocal populations. We, members of our community, came up with: What about Continental Africans? The Obama Administration did not come looking for us to give us bread and bonvita. That is not how the squeaky wheels work in the US. A community finds its own voice and feet - that is how it has happened since the Pilgrims landed.

We took action. The US Department of Health and Human Services was not supposed to get a venue. We, the community, had to. We cannot be that dependent.  Before Jews, Latinos, Asians and the influential communities got to where they are, they did not go and ask government or external sources to sponsor them first in order to influence government and external sources. That does not sound like reality to the ears and senses. They put their own two cents and sweat equity  and built a better mouse trap. There is a small thing called integrity.

Wharf, that's where you come in.  So where did you want it? Biafra Amphitheater?-:)) Ikwerre people will  have a problem with that.....hahaha. So you see, no matter what humans do, there will always be a complain. If earth is invaded by aliens, they would have human supporters.  There is always a reason to disagree even when it is destructively so.

Nevertheless, we have to begin somewhere - knowing that some will find a reason to say no. But yes, 100-130 community leaders and professionals, preferably hands-on, serious minded people who can help to do something for a change - create a health program for the benefit of the entire community - is thumps up. The forum is on presentations;  what happens after on implementations is what we should be talking about.

If my thinking is wrong, then I fail by not knowing that there are thousands who would want to be there if there is a bigger space for the majority. Where has that happened? Even when the topic is planning for  free Owambe party of high and low tables, you will have few undertakers to plan. Okay, if you can get the majority of even your Igbo community, we can have a field ....rolling with laughter. Just bring the water.

We should be impressed that African embassies are working with the community. What you read below is what I wrote.  Talk about outreach, sincerely, how many would volunteer to make it happen there and then after? We got to real.

Wharf, sometimes people get discouraged because no matter the best effort with limited, personal resources, those who try are being beaten on the head. We are not paid, at least I have never been to organize African affairs. The fact some have worked tirelessly through research and share grits and guts to advance the presence of the African population as a target population that is distinctively deserving of health resources (OBAMACARE) is commendable. Ditto for economics, etc.

The venue is ideal. It could have been at any embassy; just as people could have chosen an alternative hotel for conventions.

Sincerely, the outreach could  not have been more sincere based on REALITY. Do you want to donate? Even moi moi (koki) or fried goat. There is item 11. If not, Wharf, see u in Mushin where you will be forced to depart with some of your resourceful naira as the host.

Best and Cheers,
MsJoe

Interesting choice, Ghana embassy. One would think that a sincere outreach program would target the majority of the people rather than a handful of people.

Were I to live in the D.C. area, would I be going to the Ghana embassy to listen to her, I will say no.

                Overview of the Program
             Obama Care and
  the Continental African Community
Venue: Ghana Embassy, Washington, DC
<Nadine%20Gracia.jpg>
Dr. Nadine Gracia, US Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services

The Obama Administration is reaching out to various communities (Hispanics, Asians, Jewish, etc,) to explain the process and benefits of the new health policies that will take effect from October 2013.  On July 11, 2013, the Obama Administration's US Assistant Secretary Health and Human Services Dr. Nadine Gracia will be meeting with the  African community  (Continental African  community).

About 100-139  leaders from community-based organizations, federal and local government agencies are expected to participate in the program from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

There would be a cocktail networking. The program will open with a welcome  remark from the Ghana Embassy acknowledging the presence of  Dr. Gracia and the Obama White House for including the African Community as a target population in addressing  health and promoting the health of the population.

The US Office of Minority Health will explain the overview of the program and  Dr. Garcia will make the presentation on Affordable Care Act - Obama Care. After this keynoting presentation, Dr. Gracia will take questions from the audience.

Please, do not hesitate to contact me if you need further information.

Respectfully,
Evelyn Joe
