Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Fwd: Carnegie Ad in New York Times Featuring Great Immigrants

Thank you, SO. Noted.
This is an extensive process of canvassing, sifting and debating that involves all immigrants to the USA. Andrew Carnegie, as you might know was an illustrious immigrant who contributed immensely to the worlds of business, philanthropy, knowledge production, peace, etc. He set up the Carnegie Corporation of New York in 1911 after founding five organizations in the USA and three in the UK with the injunction " to promote the advancement and diffusion of knowledge and understanding."
Your point is noted, may we all see many more July 4th.
-Tade.

Subject: Carnegie Ad in New York Times Featuring Great Immigrants

Dear Toyin,

Could you kindly share the following story on your USA/Africa Dialogues Series.

Three Africans Featured in New York Times as Great Immigrants
To celebrate the contributions that naturalized American citizens make to the progress of our nation, every July 4th the Carnegie Corporation of New York places a full-page, color public service ad in the New York Times (with space provided free by the Times) entitled "Immigrants: the Pride of America." The ad, which appears in the paper on July 4, the nation's Independence Day, spotlights 43 immigrants whose achievements have helped enrich the fabric of the nation. They include the following three prominent Africans:
Ilesanmi Adesida, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Kofi Appenteng, Chairman of the Africa-America Institute and the International Center for Transitional Justice
Paul Tiyambe Zeleza, Dean of the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts at Loyola Marymount University
This year, in addition to the ad itself, the Corporation has launched a multimedia outreach effort that includes a companion website, "Great Immigrants: The Pride of America," at http://greatimmigrants.carnegie.org<http://greatimmigrants.carnegie.org/>, which highlights this year's honorees and those celebrated in previous years. The site also features a timeline of Andrew Carnegie's experiences as an immigrant, steel baron and philanthropist. In addition, a Twitter hash tag— #geatimmigrants — has been created for those who want to share their stories about immigrants and their journey to citizenship, and the Corporation is featuring our celebration of immigrants on its Facebook page:
