Many people across the Niger drop (divorce) one wife for another, to adhere to the injunction. The injunction stipulates not more than four wives. He could have married a dozen wives with half-dozen children each in his life time, but as at the time of death only four wives were with him.
Then the issue of 72 children and not allowing them. It is people like this that make national planning sometimes a difficult thing. Maybe it's people like this that didn't make IBB housing for all by year 2000 a reality. Just a sarcasm! Technically, the FGN has pegged the number of children to, four per man, using the civil service as basis of example, in the area of social/health benefits accessible to civil servants. Though, China is now relaxing the one-child policy of the early 80s to two-child, due to dependency ratio occasioned by the aging population. It has helped them in a way while it lasted. How do you implement SOCIAL SECURITY when a man keeps manufacturing babies for an infrastructure deficient society? Should we have a functional social security system, tacitly put, it means on the average two of his children will be qualified to benefit by age (18). In a matter of few years he doesn't need to contribute any effort at work again (the baby factory with 72units of social security is enough to sustain him). Whereas a hardworking fellow with four children will only benefit from 4units of the social security. Maybe we introduce child tax, to generated more fund for infrastructure development, and social security.
Child rearing goes beyond the availability of financial means. There is no how this man can be accountable to these 72 children morally, and in discipline. The lapses in mentoring aspect of fatherhood is definitely not in contention here.

--Just curious! The news item states that "Dankure, a close associate of Governor Aliyu Wamakko, is survived by four wives and 72 children." This does not necessarily mean that "each wife had 18 children;" there could be other mothers apart from the four wives.

--How do you mean allowed? The simple arithmetic means that each wife had about 18 children! Even if this were not problematic biologically, it would not be proper because the family would not have the means to bring up the children properly. One may argue that if the estate could pay 51 million Naira for his release the estate probably could afford to train the 72 children. But money or material things are not the only requirements for bringing up children! Still I do not know about being allowed. You want to place the responsibility on Government! People should be responsible enough to plan their family to a size that can be managed. By the way, who were his kidnappers?Eugene Mary Nwana

The Sokoto-based businessman who was kidnapped and released 11 days ago, Alhaji Abu Dankure, is dead.Dankure, aged 68, died at the Uthmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, at about 3:00 a.m. on Friday.His elder brother, Alhaji Mamman Dangaladima, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the deceased was taken to the hospital at about 2 :00 a.m after complaining of a heartache and died about an hour later.NAN recalled that the late businessman was kidnapped in Sokoto on November 6 by four gunmen along Kupper road and was released on November 11, after reports said the abductors were paid N51 million as ransom.Dankure, a close associate of Governor Aliyu Wamakko, is survived by four wives and 72 children.Until his death, he held the traditional title of Sarkin Fadan Sarkin Musulmi.Meanwhile, the funeral prayer for the deceased, led by Sheikh Dahiru Shehu, the Chief Imam of Shehu Juma'at Mosque, was conducted at about 9:30 a.m.It was attended by Govenor Wamakko, his deputy, Alhaji Mukhtari Shagari; former Minister of Culture, Tourism and National Orientation, Senator Jubril Gada and the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Sahabi Gada.The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar, was represented by the Magajin Rafin Sokoto, Alhaji Rilwanu Bello and the District Head of Wamakko, Alhaji Salihu Barade.
