Obviously, just as when Mandela came to the US he met with prominent business and political leaders more than he met with those who had done the most in the struggle against apartheid and to free him. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. Again, whatever you think about Obasanjo, without his carrying through on Murtala Muhammad's foreign policy in southern Africa, Mandela would probably have died in jail and apartheid might still be in place. I still remember February 13, 1976, and the fear that the Nigerian government might change and that a South African installed government would rule in Luanda.
