The deployment of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), on 15 September 2014,1 raised hopes for positive change. The new UN force offers an important opportunity for protecting civilians, ending impunity for serious human rights abuses, and, ultimately, putting an end to a conflict that has killed thousands of people, displaced hundreds of thousands more, and destroyed countless villages since December 2013.
