Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Re: STAR INFORMATION: Council of Obas and Chiefs of Lagos State {Re: The Baboon of the Lagoon}

Cornelius, when did you change your last name in apparent ethnic solidarity?

It is not only the Igbo who are outraged by the despicable threat of genocide. When he called for dialogues to be free of negative postings among forum members, Falola did not mean to censor the unapologetic condemnation of the incitement to evil against the innocent by a man capable of impressing some youths to do his wicked bidding. You should add your voice to the condemnation of the tyrant in defense of democracy, it is not a curse to denounce fascist tendencies. The man dies in all who keep silent in the face of tyranny. It is the Igbo today, tomorrow it could be your people who are unfairly targeted by organized criminals and I can assure you that if that happens, you can count on the Igbo to share your deserved moral outrage.

There are so many chiefs in Lagos, according to Bolaji, and yet none of them has had the courage to denounce the madness of their 'permanent chairman'. All it takes for evil to triumph is for good people to keep silent or, even worse, try to silence those who are raising the alarm.

Chief Sir Bolaji Aluko,

Of course  the  Igbo Lagosians have a right to shout  and even a greater right to vote (secret ballot) according to their consciences but we  ought not let the hysteria of those fumigating so passionately to preside over our better selves, especially not after Oga Falola's recent appeal for decorum in our forum.

I wonder what Doyin Okupe himself  thinks about the level of invective being used by the Biko Agozinos. Do they think that they have a monopoly on cursing revered leaders?

Some of us have less to lose than others.

What would happen if we all went bananas?

A word to the wiser is usually sufficient.

Sadly,

My People:

As I asked before:  what is the fuss about the fulminations of the Oba of Lagos - or more accurately the Eleko of Eko??

The Oba of Lagos is just one Oba in "Lagos" as we all know it, not even in Lagos State.  In that "Lagos", there is the Olu of Ikeja, Onikoyi of Ikoyi, Oniru of Iruland, Olu of Mushin, Oba of Somolu, ati bee bee lo.

So ta lo nba yimiyimin du?

Inquiring minds want to know.

We should not let hysteria take over objectivity.

And there you have it.  Let us move on....

Council Of Obas And Chiefs

Lagos State  Council of Obas and Chiefs is one body, which has the capacity to contribute phenomenonally to good governance in the State by constantly availing government of its wisdom and sound advice: using its tremendous influence to mobilize popular support for public policy as well as being an important source of communication and feedback between the government and the grassroots. The Institution of the Council of Obas and Chiefs is a critical building block that every government must engage seriously if development and orderly  societal growth is at the core of its vision.
As an Institution, the Council of Obas and Chiefs is as old as Lagos state itself. It was established following the creation of Lagos State through the Council of Obas and Chiefs of Lagos State, Edict 1969 which came into force in April, 1969. The erstwhile Council of Obas and Chiefs, which was constituted in December 1995 with Thirty-One members, was dissolved by the immediate past State executive Council at its 11th meeting held on Monday 28th May, 2007.
The new Council has a total of Fifty-one members drawn from  the five divisions of the State. The Oba of Lagos is the permanent Chairman of the State Council of Obas and Chiefs with four Vice-Chairmen drawn from the four divisions of the State namely: Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Alara of Ilara, Olu of Ikeja and the Akran of Badagry.
