My People:
This has taken a serious - and potentially criminal - turn. Oro p'esi je (I am (slightly) short of words!)
When one wondered before now the National Assembly Clerk's apparent lack of worry - not even a passing mention - about a half-full house on Senate Inauguration Day, and the opportunistic ascension to a Deputy Presidency by a Minority Party - all aided of course by careless Majority Party members loitering nearby instead of being in the Chambers, with a Presidency that first feinted lack of interest in the Chamber affairs before realising that import - adding on this alleged unlawful forgery of a Standing Order document is a tad much to bear.
If proven - and a big IF - then a conspiracy would also have been clearly established. The question would be, apart from the Clerk, who would clearly be the main culprit, who knew about the forgery and when did they know it - and why? What was the motivation for the two MAJOR insertions (ie secret ballot; federal character in Committee Chairmanships) in the Senate Standing Order to make the one used on the first day of the 8th Assembly different from that one of the 7th Assembly?
Another question: has anybody studied the Standing Order of the House of Representatives to ensure nor be de same forgery we dey talk about so?
Inquiring minds really want to know that one. Just asking...
If forgery is proven - and that is a big IF - clean-hand equity demands new elections, preferably with present occupants disqualifying themselves as candidates. The outcome will still be uncertain, but at least the Rule of Law would have been established. Instability, yes, but both Chambers survived it in the early days of 1999 under President Obasanjo.
And there you have it.
