Professor Muritala Akinola Salau was a student at the University of Ife, Ile Ife for his undergraduate degree in Physics. After the successful completion of his undergraduate degree, the University of Ife sponsored him to Stanford University, California, United States of America for his Masters and Doctoral Degrees in Physics. Muri or Akin as he was called performed excellently well at Stanford and returned to the University of Ife after his Doctorate degree in Physics. He started as a Lecturer Grade Two in Physics. He moved progressively and became Professor of Physics.
Muri held some academic administrative positions. He was appointed Director, Center for Energy Research at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife. He brought several ideas to the Center. When Ladoke Akintola University was created, Muri joined their Staff as Part Time Physics teacher. He held this position until when the position of the Vice Chancellor was open. Muri was appointed by Oyo/ Osun state governments as the Sole Administrator, Acting Vice Chancellor and substantive Vice between 1997 --2005. After his time was over at Ladoke Akintola University, he returned to the Obafemi Awolowo University , Ife, Ile ife to continue his teaching of Physics.
In 2014, Muri was appointed as INEC Commissioner at Abuja. He held this position until his death. Muri was a friendly person. He made himself available to people. Muri was married to Moji with five children and Grand Children. Muri was very Religious. He will be missed by all.
He will be buried according to the Muslim tradition on Sunday, July 26, 2005 at 4.00 pm in Ibadan. MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE, AMEN.
