Dear Stakeholder: Committed to the democratic ideals that promote and sustain a people-centered African Union, the African Union Economic Social and Cultural Council adheres to a fair and transparent process in the elections and representations of Africa Diaspora constituencies to the AU ECOSOCC General Assembly. Consistent with Article 5.3 of the AU ECOSOCC Constitution, African Diaspora organizations shall establish an appropriate process for determining modalities for elections and elect twenty (20) CSOs to the ECOSOCC General Assembly, Africa Diaspora Stakeholders are invited to the pioneering session entitled: Great Discourse on Free and Fair Elections: Africa Diaspora Representation at AU ECOSOCC. The session will take place during the Global Africa Diaspora Summit. The AU ECOSOCC and organs of the AU do not create civil society leaders for the people. Rather, the people, conscious of their free will and mindful of their legitimate interest in furtherance of a peaceful, prosperous and integrated Africa, choose who represents them. There are no proxy votes, unseen constituencies, or automatic assumptions. The guidelines are followed, voting sites are known, and the process monitored by independent observers. The civil society must cultivate and preserve these civic virtues for the triumph of democracy. So you, the people, should seize the opportunity to dialogue; back up claims, if any; take to the floor in spirit of civic manifestations to address feasible mechanisms for effective representations. Organizations, including women and youth groups, are invited and strongly encouraged to participate in the landmark session. When you do not participate, you essentially waive your rights to be heard. Please be informed in your choice by reading the AU ECOSOCC Constitution. You may register for the Great Discourse on Free and Fair Elections: Africa Diaspora Representation at the AU ECOSOCC. Register |
