USA Africa Dialogue Series - RE: VIDEO: Nigeria’s Interior minister, Dambazau, converts SSS officer to “shoe shiner” - Premium Times Nigeria

John Ebohon:

May your tribe increase ojare!

Don't mind these ignoramuses and hypocrites...shooting their mouths off in far away Chicago and New York and Washington DC.....and even Lagos...
salivating that "Chei, we thought that Aluko was suffering in Otuoke with crocodiles, we did not know that as VC he had drivers and SSS and shoe shiners...he should be sacked for having these"

After five years?....

Now they have forgotten about Dambazzau and his shoe-shining SSS, and are facing me, and wondering how many workers at the Universityhave compared with the number of students..and how many of them are shoe-shiners....

Evil people.....louts and vagabonds.....they should not get me started....

Let them come and stay in some of our universities as VCs for one month,  without security, and driving themselves around in a 2004 Peugeot 404, between Otuoke and Yenagoa and PH and Abuja,  and without a PA, and they will run away after one week...

    UniPort, RSUST, FUTA, UniBen etc.

And I have been here for five years, in my second national service....some of them have not even done their first NYSC.....they will be claiming waivers and a different country (Biafra?) if they are asked to do NYSC....

Poppycock and nonsenses.....they should not get me started...

And there you have it.

Patrick,

The former VC of Uniben narrowly missed death on his way to Abuja from a mysterious gun fire. Please, let us not underestimate the dangers faced by VC's in Nigerian universities. How many lecturers have been kidnapped and killed in Nigeria of recent, and how many VCs have narrowly missed beign kidnapped in the past? The risks are real fior these guys – clean or unclean, whatever that means.

Rueben;

SSS for a VC?  What for?

What security risk awaits a clean VC? Please tell that to the birds.

What is wrong with a VC being provided with a driver (chauffeur)? And what is wrong with providing him/her with an SSS for security purposes, in a a poor security state like Nigeria? I don't get it! Lord have mercy!

Do you all see the reason why these folks die for political appointment? Do you see why Nigeria cannot get it right? The "big man" psychology and sense of entitlement!

SSS, driver, PA all at the beck and call of a VC. So, why should a governor not have 10 each of such officers? Then, why should these officers paid to do defined duties not be converted to bag carriers, domestic servants and lately shoe shiners?

When I came here to say that these folks  will go to any length to get public appointments some say it is bad belle. Well, I will continue to say it as it is.

Rotimi Fashakin:

Don't mind these wailing wailers ....they are using all means necessary to fight back, this time against Dambazzau!

Please come with me....

I have had the driver attached to me - and SSS and PA too - "shine my shoes" in public a number of times  - and this is how/why, at least on these occasions:

I had a tour of my university grounds (1) with the Minister of Education/ES Tetfund (2) with my Council members, after which there was supposed to be a meeting in a university office room.  Coming back from the tour of the university, there was mud and sand all over the shoes of the members of our touring groups.

In fact, before alighting from the various vehicles, the drivers and SSS and PAs had armed themselves with shoe shine cloth, and as we alighted, they gave quick brushes to all our shoes, so that we did not carry mud and sand into the offices.

So let them tell me: what is wrong with that? Should we have sent all our shoes to our shoemakers?  Or to our house-helps?  Oh, it would have been quite "humble" of us to clean the shoes ourselves....yes, that would have shown us as servant-leaders?

Too much hypocrisy.....

Bolaji Aluko

Shaking his head

PS:  How do we know that it is merely shining his shoes the SSS man is doing?  Suppose he is helping him to tie his un-loosed laces?  Is it not part of his "security detail" to ensure that he does not trip on anything, including on his own shoe laces?  So what is wrong with an SSS attached to a superior assisting in (1)  tying his laces  (2) opening a car door  (3) holding a document (4) removing a fly off a shirt?  Oh...it is the "public" aspect of it?

Hypocrisy.....
