RE: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Fwd: Save Us from Fulani Herdsmen, Fed Poly Ado-Ekiti Cries Out [ Fulani Herdsmen Terrorists Continue Rampage Across the Nation, a Law Unto Themselves]

Oluwatoyin Adepoju is a Yorubaman that hates Fulani people with passion. He sees nothing good in Fulani people whom he has classified as gun-toting savage herdsmen who for the love of their cows murder Nigerians, rape women and kidnap people for ransoms. The title of his post, "SAVE US FROM FULANI HERDSMEN, FED POLY ADO-EKITI CRIES OUT [FULANI HERDSMEN TERRORISTS CONTINUE RAMPAGE ACROSS THE NATION, A LAW UNTO THEMSELVES]," is a demonstration of the pathological hatred this Yorubaman, Oluwatoyin Adepoju, has for the Fulani folk. What Oluwatoyin Adepoju based the title of his post on is stated in the text thus, "Authorities of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti have raised alarm over alleged invasion and subsequent destruction of the institution's farmlands by persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen which had led to loss of millions naira by the institution." In the mythological world of Oluwatoyin Adepoju, Fulani herdsmen are capable of invading farmlands with flocks of cows without being seen. That is why the invasion of the farmlands was alleged (because it was not witnessed by anybody) and the destroyers' of the farmlands were persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen (because nobody has actually seen Fulani  herdsmen in the farmlands). Only persons afflicted with Acquired Intelligence Deficiency Syndrome would believe such a fable. It is just like a hunter telling someone that he has killed an elephant and when asked where is the elephant? He answered with a mien, it is inside my pocket!! At least, one would have expected a video or recorded photographs of Fulani herders and their herds grazing in the farmlands of Ado-Ekiti Polytechnic in this age of mobile phone cameras, but we are yet to see any physical evidence about rampaging Fulani herders and their herds in Ado-Ekiti Polytechnic farmlands.

Without any empirical or physical evidence against Fulani herders, the Rector of the Institution, Dr Taiwo Akande, was quoted as having said, "It is most painful to also disclose that some of the pilot farm projects, academic, research demonstration farms and recently established plantations on which we pinned our hope of future revenue enhancement have been destroyed one after the other by the Fulani herdsmen. They bring their animals to the campus environment and eat up every green thing in sight and if we challenge them, they will bring out guns and machetes." Suddenly, persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have definitely become real Fulani herdsmen who could not be challenged because they could bring out guns and machetes. But grazing of cows is never a   momentary venture which means that the authorities of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, had ample time to call on the law enforcing agencies in the area to arrest the marauding Fulani herdsmen in their farmlands. The Rector should be disciplined for dereliction of duty for not inviting the police to the scene of constant and daily perpetration of crime like the ones attributed to Fulani herdsmen.

Although Fulani herdsmen were accused of farmlands plunder without evidence, the Rector, Dr Taiwo Akande, was reported to have said, "Another major problem confronting the polytechnic was the ACTIVITIES OF LAND GRABBERS AND ILLEGAL SETTLERS WITHIN THE POLYTECHNIC CAMPUS TERRITORY." The question that arises here is, could land grabbers and illegal settlers also not be responsible for the destruction of polytechnic farmlands? Again why were land grabbers and illegal settlers within the polytechnic campus territory not reported to the law enforcing agencies for action by the Rector? What of if there were, no farmlands devastating Fulani herdsmen, no land grabbers and settlers at Ado-Ekiti polytechnic; the Rector might have invented the stories to extort money from the Federal government. The Rector had earlier wailed that "SOME OF THE PILOT FARM PROJECTS, ACADEMIC, RESEARCH DEMONSTRATION FARMS AND RECENTLY ESTABLISHED PLANTATIONS ON WHICH WE PINNED OUR HOPE OF FUTURE REVENUE ENHANCEMENT HAVE BEEN DESTROYED ONE AFTER THE OTHER BY THE FULANI HERDSMEN." Since the sources on which the polytechnic pinned its hope of revenue enhancement had been destroyed one after the other by the Fulani herdsmen, the Rector then complained, "OTHER PROBLEMS CONFRONTING THE POLYTECHNIC WERE CONTINUED DWINDLING RESOURCES ARISING FROM LOW FUNDING BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AND POOR PATRONAGE BY THE PRIVATE SECTOR IN TERMS OF ENDOWMENT AS PART OF CURRENT CHALLENGES OF THE POLYTECNIC." Thus, the truth about the purported destruction of farmlands by Fulani herdsmen was to extort funds from the Federal government. Simply expressed, the Rector is telling the Federal government that the polytechnic would have been financially strong if Fulani herders had not fed their herds on their plantations and as such the Federal government should compensate the Poly financially. It is now a trend to blame any crime in Nigeria on Fulani herdsmen and some people would believe that as if beset with the quality of crocodiles - earless, big jaws, small brain, lazy and very opportunistic.

Authorities of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti have raised the alarm over alleged invasion and subsequent destruction of the institution's farmlands by persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen which had led to loss of millions naira by the institution.
At a pre-convocation press conference in Ado Ekiti on Friday, the Rector of the institution, Dr. Taiwo Akande, called on the federal government to intervene in the crisis.
The Rector added that the police and eminent Nigerian like Chief Afe Babalola whose university is located directly opposite the polytechnic had tried to curb further damage but to no avail.
"Our major headache is that of the menace of the Fulani cattle rearers that has been destructive to many of our demonstration farms and pilot plantations.
"It is most painful to also disclose that some of the pilot farm projects, academic, research demonstration farms and recently established plantations on which we pinned our hope of future revenue enhancement have been destroyed one after the other by the Fulani herdsmen.
"They bring their animals to the campus environment and eat up every green thing in sight and if we challenge them, they will bring out guns and matches", she lamented.
In the same vein, she said that another major problem confronting the polytechnic was the activities of land grabbers and illegal settlers within the polytechnic campus territory among others
Other problems confronting the Polytechnic according the Rector were continued dwindling resources arising from low funding by the federal government and poor patronage by the private sector in terms of endowment as part of current challenges of the polytechnic.
On the coming 16th combined convocation ceremony of the institution, Dr. Taiwo Akande, said would involve graduating sets of 2010/2011,2011/2012 and 2012/2013 academic sessions amounting a total of 11,558 students drawn from full and part-time 3,855 HND and 7,882 ND graduands.
The Rector however pleaded passionately with the federal government to make polytechnic education more attractive to Nigerian admission seekers and sponsors alike by removing the age-long dichotomy between the Polytechnic and the university
