The need for humanities in our schools at all levels is, in fact, urgent. We only have one planet and it's being torn apart by wars, indifference towards the environment, hyper individualism, and so on. Training students to think creatively and empathetically about human relations and our relation with the natural world is vital. I think we also should stress that we needn't think of humanities and the technological fields as zero-sum rivals. Rather, we should put more energy in collaboration and stressing how these fields that are frequently pitted against each other are actually complementary.
