It's only 44 days to the US presidential elections. The whole world is on tenterhooks and will be riveted to TV tomorrow, for the first showdown, the Trump-Clinton debate. Predictably, Mrs Clinton with her usual aloof, austere air of entitlement, Wall Street in her pockets, will be promoting herself, reeling off "facts and figures" reminding us of her extraordinary competence being part of this and that disastrous/not so disastrous decision-making, vanity, in a vain attempt to show the whole world that she besserwisser knows the whole terrain "backwards and forwards" and to shore up points against her less experienced rival, who was never married to a president and who hopefully, will not be repeating his earlier thesis that if Hillary "can't satisfy her husband", then how in the name of Jesus is she going to satisfy America? Well, there was a time when I thought that Hillary was stylish and dolled herself up in clothes from Marimekko.
Today, my sincere wish is that at least Hillary doesn't collapse on stage or relapse into one of her coughing fits or fainting spells or starts feeling weak in the knees or wobbly on her feet during the 90 minutes debate...
I followed her career as Secretary of State - mostly on TV – and towards the end of her tenure, it was painfully clear that she was TIRED, had travelled back and forth, less than Warren Christopher but was looking haggard, worn out and exhausted. Would she have been able to continue instead of John Kerry, I guess she and President Obama would still be dithering about Syria...

Yet, for many of the jury, in and out of the US, the outcome of the elections is a foregone conclusion, since - so they say - Mr. Trump has not only alienated - some complain that he has gone out of his way to antagonise, Muslims, Hispanics, African-Americans and should not expect to harvest more than 3% of the African-American vote, which explains his pitch here: Donald Trump Hannity FULL Townhall African American Voters
As to the Hispanic vote, can't help but be impressed that "Lyin' Ted" has endorsed Trump because Hillary is "wholly unacceptable" ? Didn't Bernie Sanders used to say the same thing? Maybe Marco Rubio to follow - considering the sorts of things Trump has been saying about Cuba, lately?

The future of the Iran deal may be in jeopardy, since Trump says he w3ill tear it up - something that should gladden the Saudis….
The big question for Pan-Africanists is, how would a Trump presidency relate to Africa? Better than a Hillary Clinton presidency? Maybe Marcus Garvey's Back to Africa movement will be resuscitated, as Nigerians and some other " illegal immigrants" stand in line for repatriation back to from where they came, Mother Africa.
US Police gun violence/ and their wanton murder – with impunity - of our people of colour, has been a direct challenge to "Black Power" especially during these last two years of President Obama's tenure in the oval office. The under-currents are very strong, so, I have every reason to not believe that if old lady Hillary Clinton is elected, she is not going to do better than Obama. Of course not – because , no she can't, is not charismatic, is not a visionary, is no orator, although she tries to sound like Obama - if Trump loses and Hillary is elected president of the US, the backlash would be an inevitable increase in police brutality towards Black people as a result of a more polarised America – the red-necks in and out of the police force will see to that and there's precious little that Dame Hillary has done or will do or can do to turn that tide.
As they say, it ain't over until the fat Lady sings...

Yesterday, I met a young African-American sister from Brooklyn with whom I cried about what just happened at Charlotte - I'm still trying to get to grips with exactly where the other minorities, especially the Jewish minority stands in this election – it's an ongoing exercise that's intriguing as is this paragraph that begins on pages 46 of Jews Against Themslves , with the words
" J Street is exceeded in misrepresentation and the pursuit of moral rectitude in disregard not just of reality but of danger (to Israelis, that is) only by Peter Beinart. If American Jewry is really divided between those who judge Judaism by the standards of the New York Times and those who judge the Times by the standards of Judaism, Beinart is the anointed philosopher king of the former group..." to the beginning of the next paragraph : "Believing that Judaism follows an arrow-straight course from Sinai to the left wing of the Democrat Party, Beinart contends that Zionism must do the same. Although second to none in sheer hatred for Israel as it actually exists, Beinart insists on calling himself a Zionist – but a " democratic" one, just like his grandmother."
Let the roller-coaster continue on the campaign trail. I intend to update this blog on the same day that the Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature is announced.
