Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - How backward can Africa Be?

This is beyond words. I can't understand why people always call these things animal - like. There are no animals on earth doing such things except the human animal. Africa before the arrival of Christianity was a human place. People did never punish children. This the Africans learnt in their Christian schools. As I wrote nearly forty years ago: You have to fuck them out of Africa - all the experts, the expats, the missionaries and especially the US-Africom, these military bastards from hell. Recall and remember your African values. Read or re-read Cheikh Anta Diop who reminded the Africans that ALL CULTURE, KNOWLEDGE, ART , TECHNOLOGY, CIVILIZATION STARTED IN AFRICA. So you have plenty of being proud of. But you have to start soon before the Whities with their "Western values" will flush the whole continent down the toilet.

Very sad indeed! First of all, it is not certain that this kid stole anything....for as often is the case with such barbaric lynchings, all that is needed by a gullible and blood thirsty mob is some accusation no matter how baseless.  Even if the accused is guilty, the punishment certainly does not fit the crime. And there was no trial, no fair process, and for a 7 year old kid at that. What does he know? In a good society the crowd that gathered to lynch this boy, should instead have been more concerned about him. They should have wondered what led this kid (and what causes others like him) to want to steal just to survive. He should have been rescued, not only from the immediate danger of by killed, but also from the wrong seemly trajectory of poverty, hopelessness, crime and death he was on. How? By taking care of him (and his family, if any) assuring that he and kids like him get good education and social welfare and their parents have enabling environment to survive and succeed and take good care of themselves and their children. But unfortunately, we have people and parties in government that either do not care about the people at all or are so incompetent that what ever little care they may have makes no difference on the ground with regards to people's lives and the human development index. But most astonishing is the fact that non of the leaders (president, governor, inspector general of police, police commissioner, etc, etc) will comment quickly and take necessary action to bring those responsible to account and discourage others from acting likewise. But they will find time to comment about less egregious acts overseas or arrest people for less consequential acts at home. And with "blind supporters", "ethnic jingoist" and "intellectuals for sale" always ready to defend the indefensible, I am sadly losing hope in the Nigerian project. May this kid's tender soul rest in peace. And may all those responsible for his death (not just those who lynched him, but more importantly the actors -seen and unseen- who made this inevitable by by making Nigeria hell for many) never have rest here and hereafter.

This astonishingly conscienceless barbarism literally made me sick to my stomach! I couldn't resist shedding tears. A 7-year-old? Oh my goodness! And these same self-righteous savages would go out of their time defend Nigeria's criminally privileged elite class who pillage the public treasury. It truly  requires the patience of Job not to lose faith in our country.

A crowd made up of people old enough to be his father have burnt alive a young boy of seven years in one of the most astonishing act of barbarism ever carried out in any part of the world. The incidence took place this morning in Lagos, Nigeria's commercial hub.Inline image
The 7 year old was accused of stealing. There was no trial not to talk of conviction. Stones were hauled at him. A stream of blood flow from his head and mouth. The callous crowd was not done. They put a used tire on him and set him on fire. Nearby, a police man watched helplessly even as the barbaric crowd hailed and jeered. Though, there were a few emphatic individuals that sought for mercy but that became a fleeting illusion.
"The boy stole. He was caught and the angry crowd set him on fire", an eye witness told Irohinoodua today. The witness said he was shocked that at least one uniformed policeman watched the incidence without making any effort to stop the crowd or at least call for reinforcement.
"This is callous. It is wicked and inhuman", Mr Mathew Olorunhan, whose house is not far from the scene of the bizarre incidence told Irohinoodua.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Human Rights Community, (NHRC) has asked the Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to full justice. "If this had happened in Ghana, the whole country will morn. We want to see how elected leaders will respond to this grim images of the little boy,"Olorunhan said.
"Lagos must not tolerate the height of animal instinct. How can a 7 year old boy be burnt to death by a mad crowd? It is no longer the boy that is a criminal, but the animals that set him ablaze. At 7 years, a child is not in control of his world. He does not even know what committing crime is. We cannot talk of building a city that is respected by the local and international community when a 7 year old is set ablaze my a set of idiots. The governor must stem the slide into anarchy in the state", the NHRC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs Wuraola Akinwunmi told Irohinoodua.
She said the present governor Ambode has been doing a lot to make Lagos a city of beauty where honour rules. "But there have been instances of cult violence and killings which now put the state on a red light alert of danger and barbarism.'
