Two additional international awards for UI ‘s Emeritus  Professor  ‘Femi Osofisan

As the University of Ibadan sets to celebrate its 68 years of existence from 8 to 17 November, this year, the institution’s Emeritus Prof. ‘Femi Osofisan of the Department of Theatre Arts has added to his well decorated scholarly cap, two recent international awards. In a statement by the University’s Director of Public Communication, Mr. Olatunji Oladejo, Emeritus Prof.  Osofisan received these awards in September 2016.

The first award was at the 20^th Cairo International Festival of Contemporary and Experimental Theatre (CIF-CET) in Egypt, held on 20 September, 2016 at which six international theatre icons were honoured. The celebration was revived after a six-year break.

The second award was the prestigious THALIA PRIZE of the International Association of Theatre Critics (IATC) received during its 28^th Congress in Serbia on September 27-28 in conjunction with the 50^th Anniversary of the Belgrade International Theatre Festival (BITEF). By this, Emeritus Prof. ‘Femi Osofisan became the tenth recipient of the award which was instituted in 2006 and first African to be so honoured.

Emeritus Prof. ‘Femi Osofisan believes that these honours belong, not just to him, but to the Department of Theatre Arts, the Faculty of Arts and the University as a whole, further consolidating the position of the University as being one of the most prestigious Universities in the world.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, has on behalf of council, senate, congregation, management, staff and students of the University, congratulated, Emeritus Prof. Osofisan, the Department Theatre Arts and the Faculty of Arts for these awards of outstanding achievements, describing the recipient as a true academic and outstanding professional.
