Between June 1999 and June 2015, public officials were stealing and mismanaging public funds and the economy. They looted and looted and looted some more. This was also the period when oil money (petro-dollars) was pouring into the Nigerian economy. Essentially, money was everywhere. Everywhere! And so, millions of Nigerians got used to free and easy money. However, this is no longer the case since Muhammadu Buhari took over as the president: stealing and mismanagement has been curtailed; and the petro-dollars is no longer pouring into the economy. For the first time in fifteen or so years, millions of Nigerians don't know how to be financially honest and or how to live within their means. The result has been this loud cry of "recession, poor governance and Buhari's cluelessness." Nigerians must stop whining, face reality and adjust to the new country that Nigeria is slowly becoming. The days of financial recklessness are over!
