Re - The shock news of the passing away of Dr. Chika Onyeani - all too sudden and all too real - but the Almighty is the most true and the best judge – in fact when I first read the headline that a Nigerian had been appointed to Trump's team of economic advisers, without knowing whether he was affiliated to either the Republicans or the Democrats, I was almost certain that it could be none other than the inspirational author of Capitalist Nigger , that added blessing to the much needed entrepreneurial spirit...
May the Almighty Chukwu be with him , his immediate family and his larger family of sincere friends and acquaintances – I say sincere because he himself was no hypocrite but was true, "like ice like fire" and in this regard I always thought about him in terms of Polonius' concluding advice to Laertes
"This above all- to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man"
We will miss him dearly. The only term I can think of right now is a quality of his : "bolingo presence" the spontaneous presence of love which comes by when even by mere word of mouth, when a man is himself, is true to his own self and that was always my impression of him whether he was blowing hot as the energetic organiser and leader of the Goodluck Jonathan Appreciation Day or entertaining us the readers of his African Sun Times, with some salacious, not so holy sexual details, straight out of contemporary Sodom and Gomorrah…
His legacy - a champion of the African values and fairness that he espoused – should continue as an inspiration to all, to keep the torch that he has passed on, burning bright...
