There is no "parapo" factor in Auteuring Nollywood at all. I only attempted to complicate the periodization issue in the interview but did not do any such thing in the volume. I think you will find it a beautiful experimentation with the auteur theory/philosophy angle.

I love the essay you wrote with the Baudrillardian angle. Nice nice!

Thanks for sharing, Gloria. Ken must be disappointed that you did not film any trash in the background though you chose a posh part of Lagos for this purpose.

I look forward to reading Shina's book too though his choice to focus on his parapo may limit the appeal of the book on a national phenomenon.

Gloria should be cautious about ingoring postmodernist theory given that Derrida creditef his African cultural backgroynd with inspiring his decobstruction discourse. The saying that the author is dead simply means long live the critic because the author cannot dictate the reception.

Here is an essay that I wrote on Nollywood highlighting its technological inovations and taking Baudrillard seriously

Ken,

That is a real

good compliment -  coming from a  renowned specialist in

the field of African cinema.

The Lagos shots

were done around 8.00am on a Sunday . That is why the

streets were

clear. This gave me the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of

Lagos from another angle.

Special

commendation  to Governors Tinubu, Fashola and Ambode for

facilitating  such a

clean and

beautiful city.

The interview

took place at Maryland, Lagos about a week before.

Dr. Afolayan

 had one minute notice!!!!

Hey folks, this is a video on

Nollywood made by our own Gloria and adeshina afolayan.

Gloria is being modest in not telling us, but I just had

time to start viewing it and loved it.

Everyone needs to click on the link

and enjoy these two smart people discussing the wonderful

topic, and enjoy the long takes of lagos in the

process
