And yet another good news: Emmanuel Mbah of CUNY, College of Staten Island, was elevated to the rank of full professor yesterday. If you know me, you will know Emmanuel! And if you know Emmanuel, you already know me!! He received his PhD with us at The University of Texas at Arlington, working with our man, our renowned and humble leader, Professor Alusine Jalloh. Changing from computer studies to History, he brings a new set of ideas to our understanding of colonial and postcolonial African conflict, identity, ethnicity as well as the place of Africa and the African diaspora in transatlantic global interconnections. Dr. Mbah was promoted to Associate Professor in 2013. Less than 5 years after, he has been promoted to Professor. Given such an impressive accomplishment in such a short period of time, I strongly believe that his record for academic production and versatility is immense and will continue to grow.
His research and publications demonstrate incremental scholarly accomplishments in several fields of African history that exhibit conceptual integrity and compassionate dedication to standards of professional excellence. In sum, the methodological depth and chronological breadth of his scholarly work and research goals are ambitious, yet pragmatic and realistic. Dr. Mbah has had the uncommon opportunity to engage in productive work with people from diverse disciplinary, cultural, and other backgrounds. Just imagine below the impressive record of his post-tenure portfolio. I can make a small claim that I have read every piece that Mbah has produced.

I love him and his two children, and I have visited them in their lovely home where Heineken, the only beer that God created for Emmanuel, was supplied without end. Praise God! We have had to postpone our visit to the Cameroon because of the turbulence there. Once peace returns, I will throw a party for Emmanuel in the Bamenda Grasslands where we will enjoy fresh palm wine, great plantain, bushmeat, cornmeal, etc. We will go…whether Biya wants it or not, we will outlive him. Meanwhile, when the promotion process was in motion, I promised him a secondary party in New York. I will deliver on that. Insah Allah!
