USA Africa Dialogue Series - Visiting Assistant Professor Position at Georgetown University

The African Studies program in Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service invites applications for a three-year, non-tenure track appointment as an Assistant Professor of Teaching whose research and teaching focus on religion or related themes, including the political and security dimensions of religion, in Africa. The African Studies Program is an interdisciplinary academic program established in 1980.

Applicants from a range of disciplines—including Religious Studies, History, Political Science, and Anthropology—will be considered. Strong preference will be given to those whose work is interdisciplinary and broadly comparative. We are particularly interested in scholar-teachers whose work explores the growth and representation of religious beliefs and identity in Africa, and the intersection between religious life and domestic and international politics. Applicants with a regional expertise in West Africa are especially welcome. The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong record of teaching and scholarship. ABDs are welcome to apply but must have degree in hand by August 2019.

Review of applications will begin December 15, 2018, although we will accept applications until the position is filled. Interested applicants should submit the following: a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a sample of scholarly writing, brief statement of teaching and research interests, copies of teaching evaluations, if available, and three (3) letters of recommendation.
