Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Our Odelele Choice

I guess that Gloria asked because Obodo Fine is not being very logical here. Who are the 'we' that you called backward? Compared to people who enslaved us for 400 years, how can you say that we are the ones backward in everything, including morality? How can you infer that we deserve what we get from pests because we are not thinking straight? Presumably, the Mafia are right in calling themselves the Wise Guys and Charlie Boy is right in calling us Mugus. However, when it comes to illness and death of the mother, it is not that we do not know that it is malaria or typhoid, armed robbers or corruption, kwashiokor or the use of starvation as a legitimate weapon of war. The philosophy of hedonism does not always apply to sickness as a rational choice by the sick. The conditions in which our people strive to survive are not chosen by the people but are imposed by forces beyond our control and still we rise and keep surviving. Why? Because we are survivors, the black survivors! Marley. Happy Survival, Malabite.

Has anyone written a text or articles on African Inductive and deductive logic? While teaching my world civ course two weeks ago, and the segment  on Socrates, it occurred to me that this is perhaps one of the gaps to be filled. This piece reminded me of that thought.

Subject: USA Africa Dialogue Series - Our Odelele Choice

Let us think about how African oral cultures philosophize about the
suicidal choices we make today as individuals and societies. I have
approached the discourse from the Igbo proverbial expression about the
consumption of the toadstool. Read the full essay on this by clicking
