Accepting to move into a school building with his family could be seen as a corrupt practice by Justice Bello who should have refused the offer to refurbish a public property for his private use.

Feeding a football team sized children must have made it difficult for him to save but having lived in official quarters as a Justice of the Supreme Court for decades, he needs to explain why he could not build even a mud house for his retirement.

The lesson for incorrigible civil servants is to learn to save at least 10% of their income for rainy days of retirement.

Almost all the Justices of the US Supreme Court are millionaires but they are not all corrupt. Our priorities include paying tithes to religious organizations but not all are saving towards retirement.

I hope that the family of Justice Bello will return the school building to the school children who should never be deprived of educational opportunities. They should make their own private arrangements like most Nigerians.

   He was in the Supreme Court for 12 years as a judge, before becoming its head for nearly a decade. He had two wives and 12 children; 7 boys and 5 girls.

It was the late Emir of Katsina, ALH Muhammad Kabir Usman, who gave Justice Bello, a dilapidated, abandoned, old primary school building, which the retired CJN renovated and moved into with his family!!

  A peep into the life history of Justice Bello shows he held many high wonderful legal positions across the world, and won or was awarded several uncommon legal honours. Undoubtedly, he was a world class towering figure of the legal profession; a moral colossus of unimpeachable honesty.

  In sad contrast, today Nigeria has a serving CJN, with over 326 million naira in hard currencies and over 124 million naira local currencies, along with over fifty landed properties, with over 5 luxurious mansions, undeclared among his assets!!!

   Once more, may the gentle soul of late Justice Muhammad Bello continue to rest in perfect peace.
