alan roberts is one of my favorite authors on various topics to do with african culture.

John McCall-"Making Peace with Agwu" ( A US anthropologist's account of his initiation into Igbo dibia, a process understood as the development of a relationship with the dibia deity, Agwu. Superb in immersive description and reflexive analysis, of his reactions to the experience and his reasons for undergoing the initiation and its effects on him. Free online).

Patrick Iroegbu- "Igbo Medicine" ( A series of essays on Igbo medicine as the intertwining of practical skill and spiritual relationships. Remarkable for lucidity and concise wealth of knowledge. Free online . Iroegbu has also published a book on the subject).

John Anenechukwu Umeh- After God is Dibia: Igbo Cosmology, Divination and Sacred Science in Nigeria ( A powerful book discussing Igbo dibia practice and philosophy at an unparalleled depth, to the best of my knowledge)

Angulu Onwuejeogwu- Afa Symbolism and Phenomenology- (A superb description of Afa divinatory philosophy and practice in terms of its epistemic logic-its conception of knowledge and its procedures- and its imaginative forms).

Chinua Achebe- "The Igbo World and its Art", "Chi in Igbo Cosmology", Arrow of God, Anthills of the Savannah, Things Fall Apart ( Achebe's work is indispensable for an appreciation of the imaginative beauty, the logical clarity and the complexities of Igbo philosophy and spirituality on account of the skill with which he expounds these ideas in his essays and the ironic exploration of the human depth of its complexities in his novels).

Imefie Ikenga Metuh-" Context, Content and Spirituality of Igbo Prayers" ( A prayer of lofty power and a rich explanation of the prayer).

Christopher Okigbo, Labyrinths ( An amazing poetic development of a mystical journey in which the goddess of the steam of the poet's village Ojoto comes to be understood as "the water spirit that nurtures all creation" as the poet journeys through various domains of existence to unite with her in her underwater cavern).

Donatus Nwoga and Romanus Egudu- Igbo poetry ( Contains a great poem in which a diviner invokes truth and the ancestors before consulting his divination instruments).
