OAA,--You are putting words in someone's mouth here. This is not what I got from Jamaine's statement.I can bet that your calculations and machinations did not reach his mind.Trump wants to whiten America. That's all. If he could ship all African Americans off to Africa,he would. He and his friends are using incarcerations and the prison system as a temporary substitute.Let us stop blaming the victims .It is not about Nigerian economic weakness or the 419ers or the above. It is about a form of ethnic cleansing and white supremacist thinking.I recall writing on Feb 5, 2017 on Ten possible effects of Trumpism, in a linked-in article, that immigrants fromNigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Jamaica etc will face major negative consequences with respect to remittances, jobs and green cards. Admittedly I did not foresee the blanket immigration ban but then why not? He did it to Sudan, Somalia etc.Ethiopia , with Africa's 2nd largest Black population, may be next.GESent from my iPhoneJamaine:
I agree with you that the ban is largely Trump's cynical electoral ploy of divide and rule of Black America by pitting one against the other to secure a second term. His strategists know full well what has often been debated on this forum regarding the Black Atlantic tradition's complaint that jobs that should be given to them are now being given to recent Blacks from the continent who are better qualified. The goal as Prof. Falola highlighted is white tribalism and the catalyst is the Obama factor which galvanized the reactionary forces which put Trump in power.
In other words with more Blacks coming in as was the goal of the African Americans in the 70s (note the nomenclature emphasis as opposed to current emphasis on differentiated Blacks) there is fear that the ' aberration' of an Obama might repeat itself thereby normalizing Black rule. By this divide and rule the Trump corner is saying if the Atlantic Blacks who hold the numerical ace over recent immigrants vote for Trump instead of their usual Democrat candidate that would assure a Trump second term victory. This was why rather than introduce the ban gradually for a future date it was made immediate this February to reap the anticipated electoral victory this year. So Nigerians unfortunately are the pawns in Trumps electoral chess board.
In so far as Trumps strategists realise the US might still need Nigerian nationals, they left the option of the working Visa open which at a later post- election stage Trump might again whimsically upgrade to immigrant status ( since the ban is temporary) thus having conned the Atlantic Blacks of their votes for a second term.

--Saying he knows … seems a generous statement. This is likely another fear tactic to use on the American people to make them think he is protecting them…. Did you see his Superbowl statement – "he's protecting us (Americans)" from what? Ourselves?? These actions are about the Presidential Campaign not about international affairs.
Hoping for a common sense and checks and balances to work their way back into American politics.

President Trump obviously know things that we do not know. He probably knows that very soon something will happen in Nigeria that would trigger off large scale migrant visa applications. U.S.A of course would be the first choice for Nigerians.
