Re: USA Africa Dialogue Series - US Embassy in Sierra Leone, on fire

Stay safe.

You know how it is. Islam: If shit happens, take a hostage

So much fake news flying around each and every day. I was almost sure that the headline would smoke you out. Indeed, false, also according to Cocorioko.  Anyway, it's a relief to know that you are reporting safe from your hideout at Leicester Peak. I suppose that's been the safest place in Freetown, for a long time now, provided it doesn't one day get into the heads of some Boko Haram emissaries to take some hostages, just as the students did in Tehran, sometime ago.

Is that the location where Vice President Sam Sumana ran to seek political asylum?

This very day my Sierra Leone contact told me that Paolo Conteh had turned up in Parliament, waving his gun  and was summarily arrested, and a little later a Mr. Williams who is in charge of issuing permits to those who are licensed to carry  firearms on their person, was also arrested and that both of them have been charged with treason; it's even more unsettling news (false?), that some of their supporters tried to spring them out of the Pademba Road prison  a few hours ago.   How can that happen during curfew time?

I hope that Bio, himself a former military man will put a lid on the whole "thing" before he has a coup on his hands. I remember I was in Nigeria during the attempted coup in the Gambia, whilst Jarawa was away attending the Wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana. The second thing that the "coupists" did was to liberate the prisoners  - " like a bird in the tree, the prisoners must be free".

The last thing we want in Sierra Leone now is some unrest within the military. Please keep us posted, every once on a while…

False! I live across the road from the US embassy at Leceister Peak. A tanker in the parking lot was on fire not the embassy.
