Even after Hugh Masekela, a South African trumpeter, was exiled by the South African government because of his vocal disapproval of apartheid, he still produced antiapartheid music. One of his most famous works, "Coal Train (Stimela)," was written while he was in exile. The song depicts the journey of African black men working in the mines of Johannesburg for 16 hours a day for outrageously low pay.
